Window Lubricant

Most sliding door lubricant and window track lubricant sprays on the market are silicone-based, and the honest problem with silicone is this: it picks up dust. In the first week a silicone car window lubricant spray feels great, then it turns into a black grinding paste inside the door channel or window track, and the next thing you know the regulator is failing or the door squeaks again. We used to ship a silicone version and we still do for some automotive uses (rubber weatherstripping for example), but for the home window track, shower door lubricant, wardrobe sliding door market, and car window track applications, we now push PTFE dry film lubricant almost exclusively.

The trade-off buyers don't always see is that PTFE dry film lubricant is more expensive (about 25% more per can, raw material cost) and the application feels different: you have to let the PTFE dry film spray dry for 30 seconds after spraying to form the dry film. Customers who spray and immediately wipe it off will think it's not working. We added a printed cue on the car window track lubricant can label this year ("dry 30 seconds before testing") because we were getting complaints that turned out to be user error.
