Diesel cold start spray is a niche product that hasn't shrunk the way people assume. The car parc in Russia, Northern China, Mongolia, and Eastern Europe still has hundreds of thousands of indirect-injection diesels from the 1990s and 2000s, especially in commercial vehicles and farm equipment. These engines don't have glow plugs hot enough to start at -20°C and below; a burst of ether cold start spray for diesel engines into the intake drops the cylinder temperature requirement just enough to fire.
