Aerosol Spray Manufacturer in China: Our Pre-Signing Checks

Aerosol Spray Manufacturer in China: Our Pre-Signing Checks

Last spring, a buyer from Stuttgart emailed us with a list of eleven factories he was evaluating. He had already spent four weeks getting quotes. "Everyone says the same thing," he wrote. "ISO, UN, fast samples. I need to know what to actually look at."

That message is why I wrote this. We are Midwel, a full-chain aerosol manufacturer in Hangzhou, and we sit on the other side of that evaluation every week. Here is what we think buyers should actually inspect when choosing an aerosol spray manufacturer in China — not the brochure version, but the things that show up later, in production.

Start With the Factory Floor, Not the Certificate Wall

Almost every supplier will show you ISO 9001 and UN packaging certificates. Certificates confirm the factory passed an audit on a certain date. They do not tell you whether the filling line runs at 60 cans a minute or 180, whether the R&D lab has a stability chamber, or whether the person answering your emails understands what a valve seat is.

When you visit a factory — or do a video call walkthrough, which we offer — look at these four things:

1. Can production under the same roof. A factory that forms its own cans controls the most failure-prone step in the supply chain. If can forming is outsourced, ask who inspects the empty cans before filling. At our plant, the can line, printing, and filling share one quality team and one set of batch records.

2. The filling room in motion. Ask to see the line running, not a photo of it. Watch whether cans are weighed in-line and whether there is a water-bath or pressure-decay leak test at the end. A 100% leak test is standard in serious plants; some smaller fillers only sample-test.

3. The R&D lab, not a corner of the office. Formula tweaks are the most common reason an order gets stuck. If the lab cannot run accelerated stability tests or compatibility checks between your active ingredient and the can lining, plan for delays.

4. Who answers technical questions. Send a technical question before you buy — ask about propellant compatibility, for example. Note how long the reply takes and whether it is specific. That is a preview of how the whole project will feel.

Certifications: Match Them to Your Market

A certificate is only useful if it covers the country you are shipping to. We keep six compliance families current — UN dangerous goods packaging, CE, DOT, RoHS, SASO, and REACH — because our clients ship to the EU, the US, the Middle East, and Latin America. If your target market is Saudi Arabia, a factory with only EU paperwork will cost you extra time and money.

Ask for the certificate scope too. A UN certificate that lists "aerosols, class 2.1" on the actual packaging line is different from a generic quality certificate. And ask who prepares the export documents — SDS, GHS labels, dangerous goods declaration. Factories that do this in-house, as we do, remove a whole layer of logistics risk.

One Misconception We See Often

Buyers frequently assume a larger factory means slower, more expensive orders. In reality, scale is what lets a factory keep dedicated lines for overseas clients. Our base in Dingzhou, Hebei covers 98,796 m² and runs at a capacity of over 200 million cans a year, with a separate scheduling channel for export orders. That is why we can hold a standard MOQ at 5,000 pieces and still deliver samples in 7–15 days and mass production in 25–40 days. Small order, real factory — they are not opposites.

When You Should NOT Choose Us

Honesty saves everyone time, so here is the other side. Do not work with us — or any full-service factory — if:

  • Your formula is already fixed and you only need filling and packing. You will pay for capability you do not use.
  • Your priority is the absolute lowest unit cost with no customization. A trading company can sometimes source cheaper per can, because it picks whichever plant is cheapest that week. You trade away traceability and accountability.
  • You need a product category we do not run. We specialize in household, personal care, automotive care, and industrial maintenance aerosols. An agricultural pesticide with a totally different regulatory path deserves a specialist in that field.

What Buyers Ask Us Before Signing

Q: Can you really do a 5,000-piece first order?

Yes. We treat first orders as entry points, not profit centers. Multi-SKU pilots under 10,000 pieces are common for us.

Q: How do I know my artwork and formula are protected?

We sign NDAs as standard, and our ODM base formulations stay with us unless a technology-transfer agreement is negotiated. If you are still deciding between OEM and ODM, we wrote a plain-language comparison of the two models. Your branding and final specification belong to you.

Q: Do you handle the dangerous goods paperwork, or do I need a forwarder?

We prepare SDS, GHS labels, UN classification, and shipping declarations in-house, and we coordinate with your forwarder. FOB, CIF, and DDP are all options.

Q: What if a batch fails inspection?

Every batch ships with a third-party inspection report on request. If defects are found, we rework or replace at our cost. This is written into our standard terms.

Start With Questions, Not a Quote

If you are evaluating factories, do not start by asking for a price list. Start by asking the questions above — in writing, to several factories at once — and compare the answers. The way a factory replies during evaluation is a reliable preview of how it will handle your order.
